Harassment Investigations

In this video Eric covers harassment investigations. Eric has worked for over 25 years both with the United States Department of Labor and in the private sector investigating harassment and dealing with the real consequences harassment has on the victims and the companies they work for. The goal of this training is to guide employers on how to handle harassment investigations in a way that will best serve the company and any potential victims of harassment. While primarily focused on sexual harassment what Eric discusses can be used to prepare for investigations of other types of harassment as well. Eric covers who should and can investigate harassment allegations, how interviews should be handled and what should be asked and said during an investigation. Eric also includes his take on discipline if any harassment has been confirmed.

Bio: Eric Taylor is the Director of Risk Management and Occupational Safety for Owen-Dunn Insurance Services, an AssuredPartners Agency located in Sacramento, CA. He has been assisting Owen-Dunn clients with Risk Management, Company Safety programs, and Human Resource issues that have the potential to cause embarrassment and great financial loss to client companies for 15 years. Eric began his career in equal employment and affirmative action in 1991 with the United States Department of Labor, Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). At OFCCP, Eric was a compliance officer responsible for assessing the Affirmative Action plans of companies with Federal contracts. Eric also investigated complaints of harassment and discrimination. From 1996 to 2005, Eric worked as a Human Resources Advisor for Safeway Inc. During that time he was responsible for investigating hundreds of claims of harassment and or discrimination, as well as complaints related to unsafe work practices. Eric has conducted training for managers and employees on harassment law, the ADA, management style, diversity, and the investigatory process.

Recent or Pending Changes to California Safety and Health Requirements (32 minutes)

In this April, 2020 video Eric reviews some of the recent or pending changes to health and safety requirements in California. Among other topics, Eric covers the emergency wildfire smoke regulations, safety and health requirements related to Valley Fever and the pending indoor workplace heat illness requirements. This video’s primary target audience is supervisors, managers and those involved in their company safety program.

Incident Investigations (34 minutes)

Incident investigations are one of the most important components of any successful safety program. In this video Eric goes over how to do investigations. He explains how looking for causes beyond a single unsafe act is the best way to find the institutional issues that led to the unsafe act, and by doing so prevent future incidents. This video’s primary target audience is supervisors, managers and those involved in their company safety program.

Home Office Ergonomics (18 minutes)

This is a brief COVID-19 inspired presentation on home office ergonomic issues. Many home office spaces have been set up in an ad hoc basis, without ergonomic review or ergonomically designed equipment, and as such, employees are more likely to have ergonomic issues. Eric covers issues to look for in your office set up and how those could cause any physical discomfort you may feel. This video is targeted for all employees doing office focused work.

Serious Injury Reporting (14 minutes)

In this video Eric covers which serious injuries require an immediate call to California OSHA and the procedures that must be followed when making a serious injury report. While this presentation is primarily for California employers, Eric also briefly covers Nevada OSHA procedures and Federal OSHA serious injury reporting rules. Motivating Employees to Work Safely. A Guide for Successful Supervisors (29 minutes)

A safety program will not be successful unless supervisors create the kind of work environment where it can succeed. In this video Eric goes over simple people management strategies for supervisors to follow to create happy employees who are interested in the success of your company and its safety program. This video’s primary target audience is supervisors and managers.

Drinking and Attempting to Drive

Drinking and driving takes the lives of thousands every year. In this video Eric goes over how driving ability is impacted with a single drink and how many deaths result from driving with blood alcohol levels below what is considered a DUI. Eric covers the personal consequences of a drunk driving arrest, as well as how an employee DUI can legally jeopardize a company (negligent retention). Finally, Eric reviews a planning document he created to make a person think about how a DUI would negatively affect their life and those around them. This video’s primary target audience is anyone who might drink and drive and was originally presented to a sales team that drove frequently.
