Workers’ Compensation Claims Management

Owen-Dunn plays an active role in the life of a claim by supporting our clients throughout the entire process.  Our highly qualified in-house claims professionals have our clients’ interests in mind, and are focused on achieving the best possible claims outcome from the date of injury.  We offer training on claims handling to clients, focusing on injury case management best practices.  We are also available to discuss individual claims and provide case specific advice to our clients.

We offer guidance and training materials to help our clients properly report, investigate, and document injuries.  Using established best practices helps effectively manage losses and ensures a prompt response from carriers.

In the case of an industrial injury, an employer has the responsibility to provide the injured worker with appropriate medical care.   Owen-Dunn assists employers in establishing a good working relationship with medical providers.   Owen-Dunn trains clients on proper investigative practices.  In cases of questionable injury, we ensure that the claims adjusters know the questionable aspects of the claim and that they take appropriate action.

At Owen-Dunn, we help our clients design and implement effective return to work programs.   We know that the surest method of reducing the length and cost of a claim is to return injured employees to modified work as soon as possible.

Owen-Dunn’s workers’ compensation claims specialists review the reserves which are set by the adjusters and work to keep them in line with appropriate, rather than inflated, projected costs of the claim. Finally, we integrate our claims management services with creative intermediation between our clients and their insurance claims administrators, improving cooperation and communication throughout the claim.

 

Experience Modification Projection and Claims Management Reports

Every year, Owen-Dunn will deliver a report that provides a projection of each client’s experience modification for the upcoming year and an analysis of individual claims and their cost.  We will explain the impact of those costs on the experience modification factor, future premiums and the bottom line.

 

Human Resources Support

Our Human Resources support includes advice on employment related compliance, the ADA/ADAA and Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) interactive process, administration of protected and unprotected leaves of absence, and other internal policies and practices that can expose businesses to employment related liability.  Other offerings include recommended processes and examples for personnel file documentation, job descriptions, employee handbooks and HR advisories geared to business risk management.  In addition, Owen-Dunn provides access to one of today’s most widely used HR compliance and forms website.

Loss Control

Owen-Dunn’s Occupational Safety Specialist is available to provide an assessment of a client’s current safety program, including ergonomic evaluations, and to provide “insider” recommendations to reduce injuries.  We have experience and can assist with OSHA inspections, citations and the appeal process.

 

Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)

An effective safety program reduces costs and increases employee satisfaction.  We will consult with each client to customize an OSHA compliant Injury and Illness Prevention Program that works for them. Safety training materials that are industry and hazard focused are provided in English and Spanish, and we will also work with supervisors to improve their training skills.

 

Cal/OSHA Safety Compliance and Recording

Our Client Services Department offers guidance on employee safety code regulation and required programs, Cal/OSHA Log 300 set up and recording assistance, and help with Cal/OSHA inspection compliance requirements.
